As you’d think given the lower score this puzzle was easy. There are only a handful of definitions I have for Gross and without any other synonyms for “icky” in sight, I began looking for terms that relate to economics, quickly finding Make Yield, Net, and Make to complete the green category.
Snare and Sleepy were the two clear exceptions to my puzzle. In awe of the other names for the seven dwarfs I shifted my focus to Snare and Sleepy, which, according to me, was related to drums (or at the minimum I didn’t know about what it could be, if that wasn’t an actual fact). That brought me to Ear, Kettle, and Oil, which ties the most difficult category.
The most straightforward category was next, when I reverted to Sleepy and discovered it had similar characteristics to the categories of Calm or Quiet. Slow.
It was just Home Mute, Stop, and Volume which was immediately obvious, especially since I spent the holidays with a fair amount of binge-watching and family friends.

New York Times Connections Hints Today (game #578) The answers
The solutions to today’s Connections game #578 The answers to today’s Connections, game #578, will be…
- YELLOW: CRUSH INTO A COMPACT SHAPE BALL, CRUMPLE, SCRUNCH, WAD
- GREEN: FASTENERS BUCKLE, CLIP, HOOK, SNAP
- BLUE: MARK AS COMPLETED CHECK, CROSS, STRIKE, TICK
- PURPLE: DEPICTED IN DALI’S “THE PERSISTENCE OF MEMORY” ANT, BRANCH, CLOCK, MELTING
Since it’s the beginning of January, I’m a huge fan of making lists of things to do in the present and I swiftly got the blue group marked as complete .
In addition, when you make an agenda, do you add items you’ve done before so you can check it off? Is that me or is it only me?
The third and fourth groups of the test were not as simple. I walked down a dark road thinking that SNAP and BUCKLE had something related to someone quitting, something I was close to doing before gaining myself the “phew!” after I believed that belts were the common thread for FASTENERS.
We might have been able to play Connections until the next New Year’s Before I had the Purple foursome. Fez’s off and the flamboyant mustaches flickered to everyone who was identified in DALI’S “THE PERSISTENCE OF MEMORY”.
Finding the easiest category from the beginning can be a bit overwhelming because it implies that things will only get more difficult However, the rest were easy enough. Like a lot of people out there, I’ve been consistently working on my New Year’s Resolutions (or trying achieve them, at the very least) So it was simple to identify the blue category which is Check, Cross Strike and Tick.
Then came the green color with a variety of fasteners I needed to assist my nephews and nieces navigate the holidays The three fasteners are: Clip, Buckle Hook and Snap.
This left the purple (Ant Branch, Ant, Clock Melting) as the filler that was a snooze with the specific reference. Between Melting and Clock I had the impression that it had something to do with the famous Spanish surrealist, however If I were asked to name a work by his name, I’d come up with nothing.
