iOS 18.2 new features

This is a list of what’s new in iPhones running iOS 18.2. iPhone using iOS 18.2 Apple Intelligence is certainly the most talked about feature in the case of iOS 18.2, the most recent version of the Apple iPhone software. However, the list of new features isn’t just limited to Image Playground, Genmoji and other AI-powered tools iOS 18.2 adds to the table.

It’s a good thing for a majority of iPhone owners who haven’t updated to the latest iPhone 16 models or have the iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max. These are the only iPhones with the ability to use Apple Intelligence, making additional AI features irrelevant to the rest of iPhone owners. However, the majority features in the remaining iOS 18.2 enhancements are available to any iPhone which runs iOS 18.2. iOS 18.2 update, which includes devices that date back to iPhone XR and XS models that were released in the year 2018. (For information there are a handful of specific features for iPhone 16 in iOS 18.2 that we will discuss in the next section.)

We’ve outlined every one of the available Apple Intelligence features brought by this month’s iOS 18.2 update in the month of October and iOS 18.1’s release. iOS 18.1 update in the last week of October. This is a look at the other iOS 18.2 enhancements and features that are targeted towards the iPhone.

iOS 18.2 Photos

In addition to Apple Intelligence, Photos probably is the most notable of updates in iOS 18.2 and the most important ones offering you greater control over how you modify the photos app that has been revamped. I’ve demonstrated how to make use of the various newly added iOS 18.2 features of Photos, such as deleting images of the folders Recently Viewed as well as Shared folders, shutting off looping automatically on video playback, and rearranging your albums so that they’re with alphabetical order.

However, there are other changes you should be aware of beginning with video playback. The video playback feature is now fully-screen in iOS 18.2 whereas before, you had to play the video and tap it while it was playing to switch to full-screen mode. You can also move frames frame-by-frame through videos by holding and pressing on the slider, then sliding it back and back.

There are additional cosmetic changes to Photos on iOS 18.2. A collection of Favorites is now available within the Utilities section. If you are looking through Collections by swiping now will take one back to the earlier page.

iOS 18.2 Mail

We’ve discussed all the modifications that have been made to Mail within iOS 18.2, but to make sure you’re aware, iOS 18.2 introduces a new layout for organization, in which your inbox is divided into various categories. Apart from Primary, you’ll have a Transactions folder that contains receipts; Updates, which contains news and other notifications. Promotions, where e-commerce and sales promotional messages will be shown.

I’m not the biggest lover of the new design of iOS 18.2 mail, mostly because it’s hard to know whether new messages have arrived in different folders. managing older messages that come from the same source is more complicated than it has to be. If you’re feeling the same way, or if you don’t like the appearance or feel of iOS 18.2 Mail due to another reason, click the More button in the upper right-hand corner. (It’s it’s the button with three dots.) This opens the possibility of returning to the standard list view that has a single mailbox.

Another reason to look into further the More pop-up menu. In the current version of iOS 18.2 It’s now added an option to turn off Group through Sender. Click that option and all messages that come from the same sender won’t be combined, addressing my concern that it’s too difficult to remove individual messages, while keeping ones which are still relevant to you.

iOS 18.2 Safari

Alongside some security improvementsURLs have been changed to HTTPS whenever possible and the browser of Apple now warns you when a site isn’t able to use a valid SSL certificate to ensure a secure connection. Safari introduces several house-cleaning modifications. There are different options for your background images. (Hit edit at the top of the page to locate the new options.) Import and Export options allow you to transfer browsing data from Safari as well as other web browsers.

Download a file using Safari and you’ll be able to monitor the progress of your download within the Dynamic Island section of your iPhone when your device has this feature. The function is a circular area which fills in as the AirDrop transfer, however when you’re Safari downloading is as fast such as mine indicator of download is likely to appear and disappear before you can even see it.

iOS 18.2 Apple Music, TV and Podcasts

In conjunction with Apple Intelligence, the Photos app can be used to perform natural search in languages as a feature that is also supported by older iPhones that are based upon my iOS 18 test. Similar to what’s happening for searches that are available in the TV and Music apps. You can search for things such as “Coen Brothers movies from the 1990s” and the TV app will add “Fargo” and “Barton Fink” up on the results list.

For Apple’s Podcasts app, it has now lets you choose your top genres- this will likely affect the recommendations it makes about the podcasts to listen to. It could also have an impact on the other feature introduced in iOS 18.2 which promises the possibility of a “personalized serach page,” which will feature the most relevant collections and categories according to your preferences.

iOS 18.2 Voice Memos

It’s been reported that musicians make use of Voice Memos apps. Voice Memos apps as way to test out songs and lyrics that they are developing, and it seems like there’s a new feature to Voice Memos Voice Memos app that will specifically target that scenario. With iOS 18.2 the app allows layered recordings which allows you to add the vocal track to an existing track. iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max users can also import two-track project to Logic Pro.

iOS 18.2 Apple News Plus

The number of puzzles that are that are available in the game library of Apple News Plus subscribers continues to expand. Following the release of iOS 17.5 introduced Sudoku, a Quartiles word-puzzle into the news subscription service earlier in the season, Sudoku is now joining the game collection.

Try the sample Sudoku game by visiting The Puzzles tab within the News app. If you’re attracted, you’ll need to shell out $12.99/month to get the Apple News Plus subscription.

iOS 18.2 Discover My

There’s a new feature to give people a greater chance to locate any lost items you’ve fitted by the AirTag. The new Share Item location feature and you’ll receive an online link that shows the last location known to the item. This information you can then transfer to a trusted third-party to be transferred to a trusted third party Apple specifically includes airlines in the iOS 18.2 guideline.

The link is active for a short period of time and doesn’t have any information about any Apple device, thereby expanding the number of people who can hunt any items your personal belongings have left.

iOS 18.2 Camera Control

There’s a new iPhone 16-specific feature to iOS 18.2 which adds three new controls to the button Apple introduced to its latest models. You can now choose to secure the autofocus and auto exposure settings by applying light force onto the Camera Control button before releasing the lock once you have lifted your finger. The option to set this can be found on the Camera tab of the Settings application: simply choose Camera Control and then toggle the AE/AF Lock option.

Furthermore, going into the accessibility section of Settings allows you to alter the speed at which you double-click the camera Control button. In addition to being the speed that defaults, the options are Slow and slower.

A setting change that is sure to alleviate any person who is worried about accidentally pressing the Camera Control button when reaching for their phone, you’ll be able to configure the button to only function when your phone’s screen is on. Visit the Display & Brightness section of Settings and then select Require Screen on in order to enable the Camera Control.

iOS 18.2 Audio controls

If you’d like to be able to change the volume of playback on the lock screen of your phone, include an audio slider to iOS 18.2. On the Settings app, choose Accessibility, then Audio & Visual. On the next screen, there’s an Always Show Volume Control button that will restore a slider on the lockscreen below control for playback. This feature is functional regardless of whether you’re listening through headphones or using the built-in speaker of your iPhone.

Another audio setting that’s new allows you to adjust the maximum iPhone volume control. This is useful when you don’t want harm the built-in speaker or bother others with the sound from the music you’re enjoying. This setting is available within the Sound & Haptics section of Settings in which you click the volume button Limit to switch on the control, and adjust the volume using an adjustment slider. Be aware that any adjustments you make will only appear to alter playback but not the calls and FaceTime volume as well as alarms, alerts as well as ringtones and system sounds.
