Eight Sleep Pod 4 Cover Review: 3 Years of Sleep on Pod

Eight Sleep Pod 4
80views

By 2022 there was not one single review by an independent Eight Sleep review on the internet, which is the reason I invested $2,000 in the Pod 2. I set out to make a credible review. The result was a win-win for everyone which was either that I would improve my productivity and sleep or in the event that the Pod was a gimmick from influencers I’d make it clear with an authentic review.

Fast forward two years, and the conclusion is rather boring sleep on a cool mattress that monitors my sleep patterns is remarkable and I’m terribly unhappy without it. However, did I become entangled in the hype? Recently I was checked when I stayed in an Airbnb home for some time without a Pod. my sleep was a mess for the duration.

I was so happy to return to my comfortable mattress that I ordered the Pod 4 as soon as I returned back home. After having reviewed two Pods, the pod 2 and the Pod 3 I thought I’d cover the 4 too. It includes nice improvements like more comfort as well as a physical temperature control.

In this review, I will show how I recorded my improvements in my sleep as well as my observations about comfort as well as the leak issue I encountered in my Pod 2 and the four kinds of people that should stay clear of using the Pod 4.

Eight Sleep Pod 4 TL DR (9/10 Rating)

Who Should Buy the Pod 4 Cover:

  • You may have different preferences for temperature from your partner
  • It’s impossible to get your room to your desired temperature
  • You’re interested in sleep tracking but without wearing any wearables

Who Should Avoid the Pod 4 Cover:

  • You are sleeping alone
  • The room is extremely hot. room
  • You are satisfied with the quality of your sleep
  • You love snuggling with your spouse

I began testing this eight sleep Pod -an elegant hydropowered mattress cover that I was using as part of a study to explore various cooling methods for beds which go beyond the capabilities of the cooler mattress or crisp percale sheets could provide. The temperature control is arguably the primary function of the product which makes it comparable to the (significantly less expensive) Chilipad Dock Pro I tried in the summer of 2014:

The Eight Sleep is essentially a heavy-duty fitted sheet, with thin tubes that run across its surface. These tubes are connected to a “Hub,” a tank which looks like a more sleek version of our family’s desktop computer from the year 2006. The Hub is filled with water, connect it to and then enter the settings into the Eight Sleep app, and allow the system to go to work, pumping the waters through these tubes to regulate the the mattress’s temperature.

Eight Sleep Temperature Control

Eight Sleep Pod 4

Eight Sleep’s mission is to make you feel refreshed each day without having to spend more hours in bed swapping a light sleep for deep sleep. This cover, called the Four Cover 4 Cover attempts to accomplish this through a dual-zone Active Grid Cover that can be slipped over your mattress.

The cover cools and heats from 110degF to 55degF and every person who sleeps on the mattress sets the temperature they want to be in their region, and then the cover is ready 30 minutes prior to the time you are scheduled to go to your bed at night.

There’s nothing more satisfying than constantly turning over trying to locate a cool place in the sheet. If I am hot, a simple fix is to turn the air conditioner down to 65 degrees and allow the fan in my ceiling to generate some airflow. What’s the problem? 65 degrees Fahrenheit is expensive to maintain, and my wife doesn’t like because it’s cold.

With this Pod 4 Cover, my wife and I have a compromise on the temperature in the bedroom temperature between 71 and 72 degrees. I maintain my bedside at a temperature of -5 degrees while she is able to keep her side warm.

The question, which is multi-million dollar in value is: can this thermostat actually enhance the quality of sleep?

In the eight-sleep study that included 300 people tested by an Oura Ring that they wore, they had an increase of 10% in their sleep. However, this study can’t reveal much since it could have been dismissed in the event that it did not prove that Eight Sleep is helping people. That’s why I decided to collect my personal information.

In 2022, when I had The Pod 2, I rotated with the Pod on and off over a period of 60 days. Through this period I experienced the quality of my sleep, both deep and REM sleep improved by around 5percent as per the data from my Oura Ring, which added up to an additional 12 minutes of sleeping each night.

Utilizing the Pod 3. I attempted to reproduce my results with the Apple Watch, but there was no noticeable distinction in my deep or REM sleep with the Pod. However, during this period I had an average of four more tosses and twirls using my Eight Sleep feature (according by the application called Eight Sleep).

In the Pod 4 review, I felt so content to finally be on a mattress that was cool after two months of not using it that I was not willing to give up sleeping time to gain more control information. Sorry!

A little more sleep tracking data could have made for more of a blog However, my reluctance quite a bit and isn’t it? Sometimes, I get focused on the numbers to justify some thing. I’m just a normal guy. I like to look cool in my sleep so the Pod 4 is the easiest method to do this for me in my current situation.

Eight Sleep Pod 4 Three Comfort Observations

While lying upon the Pod 2 Cover it was evident that I wasn’t sleeping properly due to the additional rigidity and coils. However, it was clear that the Pod 3 made major improvements by better masking the coils and also removing a nagging underneath strap. Its Pod 4 improved things further by removing the rigid and sturdy encasement cover that was tucked beneath the main cover, and then zipped over it.

This Pod 4 Cover gets close to reducing the feel of your mattress. My bet is that with time the cushion will shrink little by little and you’ll experience the coils again but it shouldn’t be a problem.

In addition, I’m sleeping on my side, however during summer I’ve been sleeping on my stomach or back more often, as it’s cooler when the majority part of me is touching the bed. You’ll not feel as cool if just one leg is rubbing against the mattress.

Thirdly If two sides are different in temperature There will be an invisible barrier. This is great for me since I enjoy my privacy in my bed, but it’s not the best option for couples who are close to one another.

Eight Sleep Pod 4 Day to Day Operations

The Eight Sleep application has four tabs including an overview, schedule temperatures, manual control of the temperature alarms, sleep tracking and alarms. Over the course of two years using Eight Sleep, they’ve had three major redesigns of their apps and this shows that they’re working to make improvements, but it’s a pain to learn an interface that is constantly changing.

Following the initial set-up, I let the set temperatures take over and then utilize the app to monitor sleep.

The Pod 4 added a new method to alter the temperature, which doesn’t require the use of a smartphone. There’s ribbed rubber on both sides of the bed that can be adjusted. A double tap on this region lowers temperature by one point however the triple tap increases the temperature by one percentage.

In the instances that I felt more hot than usual during my sleep, I’d usually stay clear of lowering the temperature as I did not want to blind my eyes from the bright lights that my smartphone emits. In my previous reviews I had requested an remote, however the larger tappable area is more useful and is the biggest distinction between both the Pod 3 and Pod 4.

Eight Sleep also comes with an alarm function called Gentle Rise which vibrates one area of the mattress and provides warmth or cooling when it’s time for you to wake up. If your partner’s bedside that is vibrating, you won’t notice the vibrations but you’ll probably feel the bed shake. This is much more relaxing than the sound of your partner’s noisy phone alarm that is blaring through the room, which is ideal for people with various sleep patterns.

Eight Sleep Pod 4 Health and Sleep Tracking

Eight Sleep efficiently tracks the sleep cycles, movements, and the duration. Additionally, you get an Sleep Fitness Score each morning which is based on a 100-point scale that considers your sleep duration, frequency as well as how fast you go to sleep.

The data from Eight Sleep isn’t perfect. For instance, if was sleeping with my baby on my chest while I was awake it mistakenly thought that my quietness was sleeping. However, the duration of sleep closely matches the other fitness wearables I’ve tried, so long as you’re on the side of the mattress.

What I love most is the ease of tracking. No wearables are required and it effortlessly syncs to the Apple Health app.

From my experiences throughout my time, the three health monitoring parameters: heart rate, breath rate and HRV all appear to be accurately directed.

Another thing to consider We don’t allow our dog to rest in our beds However, that if you do, it could impact the accuracy of sleep tracking. In addition, there is the danger of your pet’s claws harming the mattress. Eight Sleep suggests keeping your pet in a comfortable blanket when they’re sleeping.

The final word? When you both sleeping partner remain in your zone and don’t have pets, or children on board You’ll enjoy the convenience of tracking your sleep without the need for a wearable.

Durability and Maintenance

The past was that the pump of Eight Sleep was noisy about at intervals of 6-8 weeks. To resolve the issue, add fluid to the tank, then click a button within your app that said “prime the pump.” The pump will be automatically primed every day at the time you set. The only manual maintenance you need to do is to add some faucet water into the tank once every couple of months to clean the filter each 6 months (Eight Sleep will send you a fresh filter).

In terms of durability goes, I owned an 8 Sleep Pod 2 cover for a little over one year and had problems until I removed it for a test of the Pod 3. After removing the Pod 2 cover, I observed a ring forming from hydrogen peroxide at the pump’s connection on the encasement. The leak wasn’t major because my sheets were not wet and my mattress was not stained. I informed Eight Sleep about the leak, and the company sent me a complimentary replacement pod 2 within one week.

Eight Sleep Pod 4 Cost and Value

Eight Sleep put the majority of its features behind a paywall. In the meantime, the Autopilot Standard ($199/year) cost is required for the initial year.

The best part? You can cancel your subscription within one year. The downside? There’s only one option the ability to control temperature manually on the cover.

Eight Sleep Pod 4

Sleep and health tracking metrics and the vibration alarm, as well as the scheduled cooling and heating are all turned off without a subscription.

If you’re not interested in sleeping tracking, could you do without an account? Maybe! However, remembering to manually switch on your device 30 minutes prior to going to bed each night (to ensure it is at the right temperature to allow you to sleep) isn’t the best idea.

Fitness gear subscriptions are not new. They’re just not popular. Yet, Eight Sleep customers should consider their subscription differently. If you’re planning to keep your Pod for five years, you’ll pay the sum of $955 for membership fees in addition to 2 549 (King in this instance) to cover. This isn’t just a monthly subscription, it’s a part of the package.

The real issue is: are you comfortable paying $3,544 to purchase Pod 4? Eight Sleep is likely to not be able to sell this Pod economically at its current price, which is the reason they’re slyly charging $995 for the Pod.

Who doesn’t need to purchase one?

As a busy dad and entrepreneur I’m looking to sleep as well as possible, and I’m willing to pay more to ensure my health. However, this Pod 4 won’t be for all people. There are four kinds of people to consider carefully before purchasing one:

  1. Singles. If I were single and could regulate the temperature of my bedroom I’d save $3000 and have the window AC on the lowest setting in summer, or only use a small amount of heating in the winter. I’ve always slept well for the majority of my life in this manner.
  2. Rooms that are extremely hot. An Eight Sleep isn’t going to be a game changer in a room that is 90 degrees; it’s still necessary to have a starting point temperature to be cool.
  3. Content that you can sleep through. If you’re already sleeping well, then the Pod may not be worth it, since it’s expensive and doesn’t improve your energy level like marketers and influencers would like you to believe.
  4. Love to cuddle. The dual zones make for a strange situation if you have different preferences for temperature that your partner. The temperature barriers are there and moving onto the opposite side can make sleep tracking less accurate.

If you’re in an excellent financial position and you’re adamant about getting an Pod 4, I won’t convince you to stay away from it even if you fall into any of the criteria mentioned above. It may not be the most value.

The most suitable buyers for Pod 4 are couples who argue over temperature.

If you’ve been discomforted when you sleep then you might want to consider the Pod 4 is worth trying using the trial period of Eight Sleep’s 30 days. Check to see if it can make any difference to your experience and return it in the event that it does not.
